Dharamshala: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has congratulated France’s president-elect, Nicolas Sarkozy, on his victory in Sunday’s vote.
In a letter dated 8 May, Deputy Speaker Dolma Gyari expressed her hope that France, under the leadership of Mr Sarkozy, will usher “a new era of cooperation and unity, which will help further strengthen the solidarity and unity among the European nations and the world at large.”
Mr Sarkozy will officially take over from Jacques Chirac on 16 May.
Previously a cabinet minister, Mr Sarkozy won a clear election victory over Socialist opponent Segolene Royal–a win by 53% to 47%, with a turnout of 85%.
