DHARAMSHALA: Mr. Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile today wrote a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, expressing condolence for the loss of lives and property caused by cyclone Hudhud which hit India’s eastern coast.
“The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, on behalf of all the Tibetans, express our deepest condolence for all those people who lost their lives in the dreadful Hudhud Cyclone. Our sincere sympathies for all those who have been affected and for all those families who have lost their dear ones,” he wrote.
“India is second home for all the Tibetans and has always bestowed their needful assistance on us; therefore, in times of such an unprecedented disaster, we relate to those victims as our own families and have deep sympathies for them,” he added.
“We pray for all those victims and their families to overcome this tragedy soon and return back to their normal lives at the earliest possible. And we also hope for the speedy recovery of the affected areas,” he said.
Cyclone Hudhud hit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh states in the eastern coast of India on Sunday, resulting in a total death toll of 24 and causing severe damages to property and livestock.
Odisha is also home to over 3000 Tibetan refugees in the Tibetan settlement of Phuntsokling, in Gajapati district. Another cyclone, Phailin, hit the state in October last year, causing extensive damage to Tibetan crops and fields.
