TIBETAN PARLIAMENT CONDEMNS DEATH SENTENCE TO SONAM TSERING

Tsering, a young 23 years old from Kardze, Kham, Tibet, who was in
Lhasa for pilgrimage participated in the March 2008 peaceful
demonstration in Lhasa.

On
25th May, 2010, the Lhasa Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Sonam
Tsering to death with 2 years reprieve. Five others were sentenced to
imprisonment terms between 3 to 7 years. It is unfortunate that even
today the People’s Republic of China continues to suppress the voice of
the people.

The
Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile “strongly condemns the inhumane approach
towards people who dare to express themselves either individually as
writers or together in a peaceful mass demonstration”. The Tibetan
Parliament-in-Exile yet again “appeals to the International
communities, democrats and advocates of human rights to urgently help
stop gross violation of human rights and the use of the esteem
judiciary mechanism to create sense of fair among ordinary people and
misuse in the hand of the people in power”.
