Dehradun: A troupe from Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) took part in the Himalayan Cultural Festival held in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, India, from 1 to 9 November 2025. The festival was organised by the Department of Culture, Government of Uttarakhand, to mark the 25th anniversary of its founding and to celebrate the shared cultural richness of the Himalayan region.
TIPA’s troupe led by Tenzin Phuntsok, artistic director, participated at the special invitation of the organisers. The group joined numerous artists and cultural representatives from across the Indian Himalayas—including Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Sikkim—in a week-long celebration featuring music, dance, traditional crafts, and artistic exhibitions.
On 3 November, the Tibetan artists presented a series of traditional songs and dances, offering audiences a vivid glimpse into Tibet’s rich cultural heritage. Their performance received widespread acclaim from attending dignitaries, cultural delegates, and spectators alike for its expressive choreography, colourful costumes, and authentic artistic expression.
Beyond performances, the festival provided a valuable platform for cross-cultural interaction and artistic exchange among Himalayan communities. This marked TIPA’s first appearance at an official Uttarakhand state cultural event—an important milestone in promoting mutual understanding and cultural collaboration.
Organisers and participants emphasised that such cultural gatherings play a crucial role in strengthening ties among Himalayan peoples, fostering mutual respect and appreciation, and ensuring the continued preservation and transmission of the region’s intangible heritage for generations to come.
