Tibetan Girl Becomes Australian under 10 Chess Champion
Dharamsala, 25 March: An 8-year old Tibetan girl was crowned the queen of chessboard in Australia. According to a report received from Australia based Office of the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Emma Guo Yuthok knows her way around kings, queens and knights better than any other Australian girl under 10. The Kaleen Primary student, who learnt chess from her father Lama Choedak Rinpoche, has been playing chess since she was five.
She won Australia’s under 10 girl’s chess championship at the Australian Junior Chess Championship in Perth on January 25. Her 13-year-old brother Sherab Guo Yuthok who had won Australia’s under 12 boys’ chess championship last year at the same event in Adelaide coaches her.
Their 4-year-old brother Jamie Guo Yuthok is also showing great interest in chess. Emma’s success largely is credited to her mother Mirabelle, who works as the treasurer for the Chess Federation.
