
MOSCOW: The 54th anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day was observed at the hall of the Open World in the capital of Russia on 2 September.
Vice-President of Moscow-based Tibet House, Mrs. Nadya Berkengeym, welcomed the guests and briefly introduced the significance of Tibetan democracy day.
Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Russia and CIS, Dr. Nawang Rabgyal, gave a brief account on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s view and vision of democracy, the evolution of Tibetan democracy since 2 September 1960, the greater democratisation in 2001 and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s devolution of political power to the elected leaders of the Central Tibetan Administration in 2011.
Friends and supporters of Tibet in Moscow belonging to various nationalities of Russian, Buryat and Kalmyk joined the gala event with a handful of Tibetans. A film dubbed in Russian entitled as “TIBET: Cry of the Snow Lion” was screened on this occasion to educate the public on occupied-Tibet. It was followed by questions and answers on various issues related with Tibet and Tibetans.
Interestingly, a member of Russian Parliament (Duma), Mr. Vladislav Panteleevitch, was among the audience and he commented that he visited China several times and knew the situation in Tibet.
He further added that China was changing and he was hopeful the Tibetan problem would be resolved in the near future.
