Dharamshala: Around 250 members of the Tibetan community in Dehradun planted over 3,000 saplings at the onset of the monsoon season as part of the upcoming celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, according to the Tibetan Lunar calendar.
Along with the expression of their heartfelt gratitude to His Holiness, this initiative also acknowledges the generosity, assistance, and hospitality of the government and people of India for hosting Tibetans for over 65 years, particularly the state government and people of Uttarakhand. At the same time, this plantation drive aimed to convey the message of “One planet, One colour, Go green,” emphasising unity, sustainability, global responsibility, environmental awareness, and collective action to address environmental challenges and protect the earth.
The participants gathered at Medhachik (Raipur) and Ladpur Ring Road to plant various trees, namely rosewood, Amla (Indian gooseberry), bamboo, spear, red silk cotton tree, and butterfly ash, in collaboration with the Raipur Forest Range Office. The community further pledged to plant more trees during this monsoon season.
