Tibetan Community in Belgium to Honour Kalon Tripa [Wednesday, 11 May 2011, 3:30 p.m.]

The Tibetan community in Belgium will honour Kalon Prof Samdhong
Rinpoche for his remarkable service rendered towards the cause of Tibet
and the Tibetan people during his service as Kalon Tripa for two
successive terms. “As an expression of our profound gratitude
to the remarkable achievements made by Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong
Rinpoche during his two successive tenure, the Tibetan community in
Belgium would present him with a statue of the Buddha,” the Tibetan
community said.Mr Tsayu Kelsang, president of the Tibetan
community, will present the Buddha statue to Kalon Tripa on the
occasion of the upcoming Tibetan National General Meeting in
Dharamsala. Prof Samdhong Rinpoche became the first
democratically elected Tibetan leader since His Holiness the Dalai Lama
introduced the landmark direct election for Kalon Tripa in exile in
2001.He was re-elected as Kalon Tripa for a second term in 2006.
