Brussels: The Tibetan Community in Belgium has contributed Euros 7908.00 to Hospital/Medical College Foundations in Belgium.
On June 5, a 5-member delegation led by Tibetan Community President Phurbu Dhondup presented a cheque of Euros 5113.00 to the Director of UZA (University Hospital Antwerp) Foundation, Antwerp. Besides Mr Phurbu Dhondup, Vice President Lobsang Tenpa, Shawo, Ngawang Palden and Lobsang Wanpo accompanied the delegation. This donation was made by 113 Tibetan families, mainly from Antwerp and about 3 from Mechelen.
Earlier in May Tibetan community in Leuven contributed Euros 2795.00 to UZ and KU Leuven.
This effort by the Tibetan community is to express gratitude to the frontline fighters against pandemic COVID-19 in Belgium. This also forms a part of the worldwide Tibetan people’s expression of solidarity and gratitude to the governments and organisations upholding the welfare of the people in this critical time.
The Tibetan Community of Belgium’s solidarity is much appreciated and was covered in the local press.
Unlike many countries in Asia, there seldom is any official Foundation or Fund (like Prime Minister’s Relief Fund etc) in European countries to which people can donate. Therefore people donate to NGOs or Hospitals like done by the Tibetan Community in Belgium.
In the case of the staff of the Office of Tibet, Belgium the 3 staff members donated their one-day salary to the Red Cross of Belgium. Read the Letter by Tibetan Community, Belgium to UZA Foundation here.
