DHARAMSHALA: The Central Tibetan Administration in collaboration with TechnoServe, a non-profit global economic development organisation, today inaugurated a Tibetan Career Centre and Computer Training Centre in Dharamsala. It is located at the old Tibetan Reception Centre in Mcleod Ganj.
The Tibetan Career Centre is a USAID supported initiative for economic development of Tibetan settlements.
“The Tibetan Career Centre is an important part of the Tibetan administration’s policies to create job opportunities for unemployed youths and school dropouts through counselling and training. The Tibetan youth will play an important role in shaping the future sustenance of the Tibetan community,” said Mr Jigmey Tsultrim, Head Career Consultant from the CTA’s Home Department.
He said the centre will reach out to the youths and provide them career counselling and trainings which suit their interests and skills. He emphasised the responsibilities of the parents in shaping their children’s future, adding that the centre will provide necessary counselling to the parents.

He announced that the centre will provide training to 22 youths in the initial phase.
Sharing his experiences in tackling with the problems of jobless Tibetan youths, Mr Sonam Dorjee, Tibetan Settlement Officer, expressed deep concern that many of the unemployed youths and school dropouts are very prone to become drug addicts in Dharamsala. “Many of our youths stay idle and some take drugs and alcohols partially due to carelessness of their parents who live abroad and send money to them. The parents must take more responsibility in looking after their children,” he said.
Mr Ashwath Muralidharan, a volunteer consultant from the TechnoServe, said the organisation focuses on developing entrepreneurs, building businesses and industries, and improving the business environment. We work with entrepreneurs, local Indian and Tibetan business enterprises in different parts of India, he added.
Describing lack of vision as the cause for unemployment among the Tibetan youths, he said the Tibetan Career Centre will work those youths to guide them in choosing career options and provide job placements. He urged the unemployed youths to visit the centre, adding, so that we could identity their interests and skills.
In addition to Dharamsala, Tibetan Career Centres are also located at New Delhi, Bangalore, Mundgod, Phuntsokling (Odhisa), Dekyiling (Uttarakhand), Bylakuppee (Karnataka) and Pokhara (Nepal).
