Tibet week in Texas
New York (Office of Tibet): A Tibet Awareness Week is being organized at the Texas A&M International University [TAMIU] in Laredo, Texas, from 27 September to 2 October this year.
The event is organized by the TAMIU, Cultural Center of New Laredo, and Casa
Tibet Mexico – New Laredo in collaboration with the
Office of Tibet in New York.
Laredo is the U.S. principal port of entry into Mexico, located on the Pan
American Highway that stretches from Canada into Central and South
America. Its sister city, New Laredo, is located within the border of
Mexico.
A weeklong event in Laredo includes construction of the sand mandala by the
monks of Namgyal Monastery at Ithaca, New York, exhibition of the
Tibet Museum’s A Long Look Homeward photo exhibition on the contemporary
history of Tibet, a musical concert by Nawang Khechog, screening of a movie,
“Kundun’, and a seminar on Tibetan medicine by Dr. Namgyal Tenzin.
Apart from these, a series of talks are being given by Tsewang Phuntso,
Dharamsala’s Liaison Officer for Latin America and Mr. Marco Antonio
Karam, President of the Casa Tibet Mexico.
Mr. Phuntso will speak on “Middle-Way: His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s
Approach to resolve the issue of Tibet”, “Democratization of the Tibetan
Community in Exile”, “Tibetan Community in Exile: Current Achievements and
Future Challenges”, and “Tibet’s Living Culture”.
Mr. Marco Antonio Karam will speak on “Inner Revolution: Tibet a Spiritual
Nation” and “Introduction to the Theory and Practice of
Tibetan Buddhism”.
After the conclusion of the event at TAMIU, the Tibet Museum’s “A Long
Homeward” photo exhibition will be displayed at the Cultural Center of
New Laredo from October 3 to 11.
