Tibet Support Group in Agra Holds Seminar on Tibet
New Delhi 30 March 2005: “After the Tibetan Peace March from Wardha to Delhi had to be terminated on the way at Agra, we are able to organise a program solely dedicated to the issue of Tibet”, remarked young Gyaneshwar, who organised a seminar on “Tibet’s environment and spiritual state: Role of India” in Agra on 25 March, 2005.
More than 180 people representing various social organisations in the city including intellectuals, government servants, politicians have attended the seminar at Budh Vihar, Chakkipat Assembly hall.
The Seminar was presided over by Shri. Ramji Lal Suman, Former Union Minister and sitting MP, Lok Sabha, as the chief guest, and Shri.Vijay Kranti, National Co-convener of Core Group as special guest from Delhi.
The seminar began with the offering of garlands to the portraits of Lord Buddha, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Baba Sahib Ambedkar followed by a prayer.
“India and Tibet’s relation dates back to more than a thousand years. In this struggle, we all have to be together as it is in the best interest of preserving India’s spiritual and cultural heritage and national security” said one participant.
Mr. Man Singh, former M.L.A. opines that the government of India has done so many good things but at the same time committed blunders and that the present situation of Tibet is the outcome of those mistakes, which also brought suffering to India as well.
In his keynote address, Mr. Vijay Kranti gave a brief account of his experience during his last two visits to Tibet. He also talked about the strategic importance of Tibet and the Gormo Lhasa railway line, which according to him, will cause a major threat to India’s security and integrity.
“Such type of gatherings and seminars should be organised in different parts of India, which will not only create awareness on the issue of Tibet but also will definitely help in gaining mass support for the cause” said Shri Ramji lal Suman. He also urged the government of India to works towards creating conducive atmosphere for negotiations between the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Peoples’ Republic of China.
Mr. Choekyong Wangchuk, head of the Delhi based India Tibet Coordination Office, extended the thanks to all the participants, guests and organisers of the seminar.
