The Tibet Museum’s Travelling Exhibition in New York in collaboration with Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art and Tibet House, USA, 3 February 2025.
New York: The Tibet Museum of the Department of Information and International Relations, under the Central Tibetan Administration, in collaboration with four Tibetan Community Associations in the United States, will organise a series of Tibet-related travelling exhibitions in the United States from 3 to 24 February 2025. The exhibitions will take place in collaboration with four Tibetan associations, covering New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Chicago.
Additional Secretary Namgyal Tsewang and Tenzin Topdhen, Director of the Tibet Museum, have already arrived in the United States to oversee this initiative. Namgyal Tsewang explained that the exhibitions serve as a powerful means of raising awareness about the true situation in Tibet. Another key objective of this tour is to present Tibet-related exhibitions with the support of the Office of Tibet in Washington, D.C., and local Tibetan community associations, fostering future collaborations with local universities, museums and exploring potential opportunities for cooperation.
According to the schedule, the exhibitions will be held at various locations. On 3 February, the exhibition will be at Tibet House in New York. From 4 to 6 February, it will be hosted at the Tibetan Community Association’s venue in New York and New Jersey. From 8 to 13 February, the exhibition will be in Minnesota, followed by Wisconsin from 15 to 20 February, and finally Chicago from 21 to 23 February.
The exhibition will focus on significant themes such as His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s commitments and aspirations, Tibetan historical narratives, and Tibet’s ecological environment. The display will feature a diverse collection of approximately one hundred artefacts, including photographs, Tibetan currency, stamps, and other historical items. In some locations, documentary films will also be shown to provide further insight into Tibet.
The Tibet Museum’s exhibition tour was initiated at the request of the Office of Tibet in Washington, D.C. The tour has received substantial support from four local Tibetan Community Associations: The Tibetan Community of New York & New Jersey, the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota, the Wisconsin Tibetan Association and the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago. These organisations have provided venue support and facilitated local connections.
Representative Dr. Namgyal Choedup took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to these associations for their comprehensive support in making the exhibition tour possible.
