Tibet Museum Concludes Its Traveling Photo Exhibition at Mundgod [Monday, 27 September 2010, 2:30 p.m.]

Dharamshala: The
Tibet Museum of Department of Information and International Relations
(DIIR) concluded its month long traveling photo exhibitions in Southern
India after holding four days photo exhibition at Mundgod Doeguling
Tibetan Settlement from 17 to 20 September 2010.The photo
exhibition titled “Journey into Exile” and “Long Look Homeward” which
was showcased at Settlement Community Hall was inaugurated by
Settlement Officer Mr. Palden Dhondup la, at around 9.30 am. Mr Tashi
Phuntsok, Officer in-charge of the traveling exhibition gave detail
introduction about the exhibition and purpose of holding photo
exhibition at the Tibetan Settlements and nearby Indian cities.Around
3000 local Tibetans including monks of Drepung and Gaden Monastery and
school children of Central School for Tibetan in Camp No. 6, thronged
in large number to visit the rare collection of photos depicting the
life of Tibetans in exile for last 50 years, and photos from inside
Tibet, portraying cultural and environmental destruction of Tibet by
the Chinese communist regime and the suffering of Tibetans who crossed
over mighty Himalayan ranges to seek freedom and a blessing of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama in India.In the evening, traveling
exhibition team screened Tibet related documentary movies “What Remain
of Us, Uprising in Tibet – 2008, Lhamo Tso: Behind the Sea and Leaving
Fear Behind” simultaneously at community halls of nine camps, Drepung
Lachi Hall, Gadhen Lachi Hall, Pema Tsal Hostel, CST hostel at camp 3
for four days.The Tibet Museum traveling exhibition team had
earlier showcased similar photo exhibitions and movie screenings at
Bangalore on 25 August, Hunsur Rabgyaling Tibetan Settlement on 28 – 29
August, Bylakuppee Sera Lachi on 31 August – 2 September, Mysore on 5
September, Kollegal Dhondenling Tibetan Settlement on 8 – 9 September
and at Panaji, Goa on 13 – 14 September 2010.

The
exhibition was showcased as a gesture of the Tibetan people’s gratitude
to the government and people of India for their generous support for
the last 50 years. It was also aimed to mark the achievements of
Tibetans in exile under His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s leadership in
building sustainable establishment such as settlements, schools,
hospitals and monasteries. Another important objective of the
exhibition is to create awareness among Tibetans as well as Indian
communities about issues related to Tibet and its people.The
Tibet Museum of DIIR, through its traveling exhibition and Tibet
related documentary movies screening, was able to generate great amount
of awareness about issues related to Tibet and its people, among
Tibetans as well as Indian populace in the Southern India. The
exhibition received high appreciation from local populace and was also
urged to carry similar exhibition at the settlement and Indian cities
in near future. The Tibet Museum of DIIR, Central Tibetan
Administration is based in Dharamsala and its traveling exhibition team
travels around India to educate people about the Tibetan issues through
photo exhibition and movies.
