The Tibet House Brasil organized a small reception on the evening of 6 July 2017 to celebrate the 82nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This is the first formal reception that the Tibet House Brasil organized since its formal opening in March last year.
Over 50 invited guests attended the reception which lasted from 7pm to 10pm.
During the reception, Representative Tsewang Phuntso welcomed the guests and gave a brief account of the life and achievements of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.
In her remark, Prof Lia Diskin, a long-time friend of Tibet and Board Adviser of the Tibet House Brasil recollected her long association with His Holiness the Dalai Lama organizing series of His Holiness’ visit to Brazil, including the first visit in 1992. Prof. Lia said that one of the observations she made on His Holiness during these close interaction is that His Holiness never fails to acknowledge and recognize the contribution being made of others, including the kitchen staff or police force, associated with his visits. With such acknowledgement and recognition, His Holiness always remind us about the interconnectedness or interdependentness of our existence.
The Chair of the Tibet House Board, Dr Elisa Kozasa, who is also one of the upcoming Brazilian neurobiologists, in her remark, highlighted the contribution His Holiness the Dalai Lama has made in bridging western science and Asian contemplative practice with his constant dialogues with the western scientists and establishment of the Mind & Life Institute. She also shared her own experience as well as that of many others including the world-renowned emotion expert, Paul Ekman, that one experiences very special feeling when one is in the presence of the Dalai Lama. Elisa stresses that His Holiness is very special person.
After the brief remarks were over, the Tibet House presented an eight-minute video in Portuguese which highlights what His Holiness the Dalai Lama means to the Tibetan people and what he means to the world community at large. The participants at the reception felt that the video was very moving and it touched their heart more deeply.
Board Chair and Board Adviser cut the cake and offered to the guests while a special Tibetan song was played offering greetings and prayers for His Holiness’ long life.
Almost all the guests stayed until the end and they fully enjoyed the special gathering. It was a wonderful evening and great day.
