Taipei: A week-long “Tibet Film Festival” has begun in Taiwan’s Taichung city as part of the event commemorating 50 years of Tibetans in exile. With the support from Taichung City Government’s Cultural Bureau and The Foundation for Universal responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama based in Delhi, the Tibet Religious Foundation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Taipei is organising the festival at auditorium cum Lecture hall of Taichung Cultural Bureau from 5 to 12 March. “The festival aims to foster a deeper understanding of the Tibet issue and Tibetan people’s plight at this most critical time in the history of Tibet and the Tibetan people,” the organisers said.The highlight of the event is screening of 12 selected films on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet and Tibetan people. The films include The World about Us; The Tibetans – A life in Exile, Escape from Tibet; His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Conversation with Rajiv Mehrotra; Art in Exile; 1989 Nobel Peace Prize Citation; The Religion Investiture of His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet; Rain into Tibet; Tibetan Story; The Lost World of Tibet and Diaspora In Refuge and Fire Under the Snow.

The visitors had attended two lecture sessions on Tibet on the opening day. Professor Su, Chia Hung of the Fu Ying University in Kaoshuing, spoke on the Central Tibetan Administration and the community in exile. Prof Su has earlier written a book on democratic system of Tibetans in exile. Mr Dawa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, delivered his talk on current situation in Tibet and Tibetan people.Taichung is a city located in west central of Taiwan with a population of over one million people, making it the third largest city on the island after Taipei and Kaoshiung. –Report filed by Office of Tibet Religious Foundation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Taipei
