DHARAMSHALA: A group of 15 Tibetan youths, volunteering at the Central Tibetan Administration, received an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday.
“It is remarkable that all of you are serving voluntarily. It represents your love and loyalty for Tibet,” His Holiness said during the audience at his residence.
“Tibetans are the most successful refugee community. This is true because our people have shouldered their responsibility sincerely.
“Historically the Nalanda University was the education hub of erudite scholars and today, the complete explanation of that tradition can be found only in the Tibetan language. We have an incredibly rich literature in human psychology and logic. In that regard, we Tibetans deserve to take pride in ourselves,” His Holiness said.
He commented that Tibetans are “a truly remarkable people with incredible intelligence”.
“As long as the exile Tibetan Administration is running efficiently, we will be able to preserve our rich culture and traditional knowledge. Otherwise, it will be difficult.
“I have not received modern education. I started learning English in 1947 and my English is fairly good. Mainly, what we should learn is our knowledge of the science of mind and physical science,” he said. “I can proudly say that when I discuss with scientists and experts, I manage to make quite a good impression”.
Speaking to Tibet.net, Tenzin Dechen, volunteer at SARD, Department of Finance, CTA said the audience was a surreal experience. “It was an incredible honor for all of us volunteers to receive such an intimate blessing and an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In short, His Holiness encourage us to take pride as Tibetans and continue to sincerely serve our community”.
The audience, organised by Tibet Corps, is part of a two-day orientation program. The volunteers will have the opportunity to listen to CTA President, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament, Kalons, Secretaries and representatives of Tibetan institutions on CTA, ‘Current Situation in Tibet’, ‘CTA’s International Advocacy’, workings of Tibetan parliament and more.
Tibet Corps is a volunteer program that offers Tibetan professionals, university students, and retirees an opportunity and platform to serve the Tibetan community. The program seeks to inspire Tibetans to strengthen the community, its institutions and the Central Tibetan Administration.
