Taipei, July 07: More than three thousand people yesterday thronged the 2017 Blessing Concert to commemorate the 82nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
Simultaneously, nearly 850 people in Singapore and 350 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, had also gathered in their respective countries to commemorate His Holiness’ birthday and were watching the live stream of the Blessing Concert. The audience in Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore also interacted with each other during the concert organized by the Taipei Gaden Shartse Center.
Unfortunately, due to poor internet connectivity in Ladakh, India, the organizers were unable to live stream His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s message during the concert. His Holiness therefore conveyed his message to the audience by phone, which was later translated into Chinese by Geshe Ngawang Tashi.
The four-hour-long concert featuring a rich array of religious and cultural programs was also attended by the former abbot of the Gaden Shartse monastery, Khensur Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden, and Representative Dawa Tsering.
Addressing the audience yesterday, Rep. Dawa Tsering said that although there are a great many followers of Tibetan Buddhism, a very few could claim to have accomplished what the Gaden Shartse Center in Taipei has been doing for the last many years.
For the third year in a row, the Center also donated, in the name of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, one ambulance to the Fire Department of the Taipei City Government.
Last Sunday, the Taiwan Office of Tibet officially marked the 82nd birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Taipei Zhongying Building with great fanfare.-
