Paris, France: The President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr Lobsang Sangay met with Senators and National Assembly members on 25 January. The meeting was chaired by Senator Michel Raison.
Dr Sangay spoke of the strategic importance of France as the nation where the 1988 Strasbourg Proposal was delivered and which led to the Middle Way Approach. Dr Sangay called France as the “mother of Middle Way Approach” and urged France to voice their support for the Middle Way Approach just as the US.
Detailing the functioning of the democracy in exile, Middle Way Approach and the Five-Fifty vision of the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr Sangay briefed on the present critical situation in Tibet.
Expressing deep concerns about the self-immolations, Dr Sangay iterated that despite repeated appeals from the CTA, 151 Tibetans have self-immolated in Tibet. He further added that the cause and solution to this wave of fiery protest lies within the Chinese government itself.
Freedom House report ranked Tibet as the second least free region after Syria for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017. Citing these reports Dr Sangay voiced the cultural, religious, social, economic and environmental repression in Tibet.
Speaking of the demolition of Larung Gar and Yarchen Gar as “unacceptable” and “unbearable”, he added that the United Nations and the international community needs to know that the tragedy in Tibet is real and that the suffering of Tibetans are too real.
Dr Sangay who is in France as part of his three-nation Europe visit interacted with major french media including France 24TV, TV 5Monde and the Nouvel Observation Magazine.
