Dharamshala: The Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama is pleased to announce “The Dalai Lama Graduate Scholarship” for the academic year 2023/24. The scholarship program is open for all full-time Tibetan graduate students (Master’s and Doctoral degrees) studying in Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia (excluding the Indian subcontinent). The online application portal is now open at www.dalailamafoundation.org and will close on April 23, 2023, at 11:59 pm (Zurich: GMT+1). Applications are only accepted online.
The Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama was established by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 2015 and aims to promote the values to which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is committed, i.e., the promotion of universal human values, religious harmony, Tibetan culture and ecology, and the revival of ancient Indian knowledge. Furthermore, the advancement and welfare of the Tibetan people and other people in need, irrespective of nationality, religion, and origin, is an essential purpose of the foundation.
The Scholarship aims to enrich and embolden Tibetan human capital and encourage students of Tibetan origin in a graduate field of study with the potential to contribute to the welfare and benefit of the Tibetan people and the global human family. Since its inception, approximately USD 2.5 million have been awarded to over 200 Tibetan students as a supplementary bursary. Recipients of past scholarships have enrolled in prestigious universities across the globe, pursuing a wide range of subjects such as Microbiology, Pharmacology, Epidemiology, Medical Physics, Environmental Engineering, Developmental Economics, Law, International Education, Clinical Psychology, Business Administration, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, International Affairs, and many others.
Applicants must provide official documentation of their acceptance into a graduate degree program at a university or professional school in Europe, the Americas, Australia, or Asia (excluding the Indian subcontinent). They also need to provide proof of their Tibetan heritage.
Current recipients wishing to renew their scholarships must submit a separate renewal application. However, scholarship renewals are limited to two years per study program. Therefore, students who have received two renewals for their current study program are not eligible for further scholarship renewal.
All information provided in the application must be complete, correct, and submitted on time. Incomplete applications, as well as submissions after the deadline, will not qualify for consideration. The independent Selection Committee of the Dalai Lama Graduate Scholarship program evaluates the applications. All applications will be acknowledged by email, and the decisions will be communicated individually after July 6, 2023.
