The Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies letter to the members the US Senate and the House

Hon’ble Richard B. Cheney
President of the Senate

Your Excellency,
The Standing Committee of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile is deeply touched to learn that the US House of Representatives has also passed the bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to our beloved leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama in its Senate version with overwhelming support. It is a matter of great pride and happiness not only for the six million Tibetan people both in and outside of Tibet but for all peace loving friends and supporters of the Tibetan cause the world over.
The passing of the bill could not have come at a more opportune time when the Chinese leadership is engaged in tightening their hold in Tibet and stepping up their tirades against His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This historic gesture of the US Congress will go a long way in healing the deeply hurt feelings of the Tibetan people and always act as a western consolation in the midst of dark desolation.
We therefore thank all the members of the US Senate and the House. A formal resolution to the effect will be passed by our Parliament when it meets towards the end of this month.
With warm regards,
Yours Sincerely,
(T.T Karma Chophel)
Speaker
