
Taipei, Taiwan: In what is unprecendented in Taiwan, Yungho Community University based in New Taipei City has in its new semester introduced a course on Tibetan history, religion and culture.
The course entailing a weekly three-hour-long class for the next 18 weeks has attracted the largest number of students in this semester.
Beginning yesterday, the first two weekly classes, titled An Introduction to Tibet, will be taught by Mr Sonam Dorje, the joint secretary of the Taiwan Office of Tibet.
Representative Dawa Tsering will teach the forthcoming classes on the past and present status of Tibet, the Middle Way Approach as framework for the resolution of Tibet issue, the traditions and customs of Tibetan people, etc.
Geshe Jampel Choezin, the religious teacher here at the Office of Tibet, will teach Buddhism classes.
So far some 26 students have been enrolled for the course, which was unanimously selected by a panel of fifteen professors through a rigorous process.
Among the both paid and free courses offered by the University, the course on Tibet is listed as a paid one.
