Summer Study Programme for Overseas Tibetan Univ Students and Young Professionals [Thursday, 20 January 2011, 11:06 a.m.]

The Dharamsala-based Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) in
collaboration with the Office of Tibet in New York will organise a
‘Six-week summer study for Tibetan university students and young
professionals living abroad’. The programme will be held at LTWA from 1
June – 15 July 2011.The programme is aimed towards providing an
opportunity for university students and young professionals to
understand the essence of Buddhism, to have an overview of Tibetan
history, and to learn their native language, the organisers said.It
will also provide an opportunity for the participants to learn about
other aspects of Tibetan culture through special lectures and
interaction with scholars and students, they added.Some of the
curriculum includes ‘Introduction to Buddhism from My Land and My
People, an autobiography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’,’Bod Kyi Chab
Srid Lam Lugs (A Tibetan Political system from 1935 to the Present) by
Prof Samdhong Rinpoche’, ‘A Basic Grammar on Modern Spoken Tibetan by
Tashi, LTWA publication’, ‘Dr Thupten Chhogdrup’s simple and
comprehensive book on Tibetan Grammar’ and ‘writing practice’ among
others. There will be weekly talk on other aspect of Tibetan
culture such as ‘Brief Introduction of the Five Major and Minor
subjects of Studies and ‘Hundred Topics on Tibetan Culture, published
by LTWA’.The organisers said the participants must read the
book, “Leaders’ Way – Business, Buddhism and Happiness in an
Interconnected World”, authored by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, before
they attend the summer study programme.The programme cost $250
and the registration will be opened until 15 May 2011 (download
