PRESS STATEMENT
For immediate release 1 September 2007
NAWANG DHEDEN, a 31 years old nun who is studying at the Rinchen
Choeling Sakya Nunnery and originally from Dhakar Latsa in Lithang
yesterday met with the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker to apprised of
the disappearance of her brother Lobsang Thokmey popularly known as
‘Lothok’.
She said that her brother was a simple nomad and a Buddhist who
believed in His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There are rumours that he was
arbitrarily arrested on the 19th of August from a guesthouse at
Chengdu. However, in spite of their great effort she and her relatives
inside Tibet do not know the whereabouts of her brother Lothok. She
appeals to the International Human Rights Group and countries,
upholding the fundamental Human Rights to help her to have definite
information about the whereabouts and well-beings of her brother. In
case he is arrested, she prays that in the name of justice there should
be acknowledgement of his arrest and the reasons for his arrest should
be made public. He should be in accordance with law given the
opportunity to a fair and open trial.
He was known to have close ties with Rongye Adak and Adruk Lopo who
were recently arrested by the Chinese authorities in Tibet and he was
amongst those who spoke openly for the right to freedom of expression
and belief and supporting the release movement for the Rongye Adak.
