BODH GAYA: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay today attended the final match of the Tibetan Champions League football tournament underway at Magadh University stadium since 3 January.
Eight teams from India and Nepal participated in the tournament. The final match of the tournament was played out between TDL FC and Dhondupling FC.
Addressing the spectators of the tournament prior to the kick-off, Sikyong congratulated the participating teams and emphasised the importance placed on public health by the Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Health is of extreme importance to a person and sports is essential to maintain that top level of mental and physical fitness required in the daily struggle for Tibetan freedom, Sikyong said.
Sikyong also applauded the organisers for creating awareness on health and fitness through sporting activities such as this tournament.
Sikyong further talked about sports as one of the key factors that can bring about unity, one of the three guiding principles of the present Kashag. “The huge turnout of people who have come to watch this game is testament to the power of sports in bringing people together,” he added.
The Kashag has allocated monetary grants of 8 Lacs each for the construction of new as well as renovation of existing playgrounds in Tibetan settlements in 2015. It was specifically aimed at achieving a dual objective of public health awareness and sustenance of the Tibetan settlements in the long run.
