Dharamshala: Speaker Pema Jungney of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile attended the final match of the Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament played between Sarah College for Higher Tibetan Studies and Men-Tse-Khang organized by Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC) Dharamsala, at Gangkyi basketball court yesterday on the 49th Anniversary of the Tibetan Youth Congress.
The Speaker in his address spoke about the significance of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) that was founded on 7 October 1970, which is also one of the biggest non-governmental organisation in exile Tibetan society.
He advised the members of TYC to understand and implement the anthem of TYC, which calls for freedom for Tibetans, unity amongst Tibetans as per the wishes of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, etc.
Speaker further emphasised on the importance of unity in the Tibetan community irrespective of their political stand to resolve the long-standing issue of Tibet.
He also warned people to be cautious of false and agitating information available on the Internet, which is aimed to disrupt peace and unity among Tibetans.
Speaker then lauded RTYC for organising the Martyrs Memorial Basketball Tournament and advised them to organise more similar tournaments that are not only beneficial for health but also unites Tibetan youths.
Finally, Speaker Pema Jungney along with the president of TYC Gonpo Dhundop cut a cake to celebrate the 49th anniversary of Tibetan Youth Congress.
The 18th Martyrs Memorial Basketball tournament started on 22 September 2019 in which a total of 10 teams competed against each other. Men-Tse-Khang won the final match against the Sarah College for Higher Tibetan Studies by scoring 55 against 41 points.
