Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile to Attend Symposium in Jammu Friday, 10 April 2009, 3:24 p.m.

Dharamshala: The
Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Mr Penpa Tsering, will
attend the opening day of a two-day national seminar on “Himalaya, Its
Environment and National Security” in Jammu on 11 and 12 April, at the
invitation of Himalayan Parivar. The seminar will be jointly
organised by the Himalaya Parivaar, Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, Nepali
Sanskriti Parishad and Rashtriya Kaavi Sangam at the Shiv Mandir
premises near Jammu railway station. Mr Ramesh Hangloo,
organisation’s secretary in Jammu told TibetNet that the seminar will
take up the Tibetan issue, taking into consideration of the time and
need to find a amicable solution to the issue as the Tibetan people
have completed 50 years in exile. He said the participants
will also discuss wide-range of topics such as issues in Kashmir and
Arunachal Pradesh, and terrorism during the course of the conference. Other
key-note speakers include Dr Kuldeep Agnohotri, National Co-convener,
Core Group for Tibetan Cause & National Convener, Bharat Tibbat
Sahyog Manch Indresh Kumar, the founder of Himalaya Parivar &
Patron of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog and Lakshman Paru, a member of Nepalese
Parliament and tribal leader. Speaker Penpa Tsering will deliver key-note address on the Tibetan issue on 11 April. He will leave Dharamshala for Jammu on Saturday morning. The
Himalaya Parivar was established in 1995 with the mission to promote
culture and religion of Himalayan region. It consists of
representatives from Nepal and Bhutan, in addition to committees at
both national and state levels across India.
