Dharamshala: The South Tyrol delegation led by Dr. Veronika Stirner Brantsch, President of the Provincial Legislative Council, is here in Dharamshala for a four-day visit, coordinated jointly by the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD) and the Tibetan Parliament and Policy Research Centre.
The delegation consisting of 11 members arrived here yesterday and they visited the non-governmental organisations and met with the respective heads of the organistations. They will be briefed on the democratic functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration and will also witness the budget session of the ATPD.
Tomorrow they will receive an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The relationship between South Tyrol and Dharamshala deepened after His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the country in 1997. The President of South Tyrol Mr. Durn Walder and the President of the regional council of South Tyrol and Trentino also visited Dharamshala in the past.
On 5 July 2005, the Regional Parliament of Terentino-South Tyrol, Italy, approved a motion on Tibet.
South Tyrol is an autonomous region within Italy and it has helped the Tibetan taskforce on autonomy in organising a workshop in Italy as well as in Dharamshala.
