
Leh, Ladakh: On 25 February 2026, on the day of Lhakar (White Wednesday), the Sonamling Ghoton Organising Committee hosted a meaningful programme at the Jangthang PHC Government Hospital, Nyoma, with the participation of all group leaders from the nine villages of Jangthang.
The programme’s main theme was to create awareness about the Year of Compassion and the Four Principal Commitments of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The function was graced by Chief Guest Shri Kacho Asgar Ali Khan (SDM Nyoma), Guest of Honour Dr. Stanzin Jangchups (BMO Nyoma), Special Guest former Councillor Shri Ishey Palzang, Nyoma Group Leader Khenrab Dorjee, along with doctors, nurses, health workers, village heads (Jangthang Gowa), and members of the public.
The Sonamling Ghoton Organising Committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to all doctors, nurses, and health workers of Jangthang Nyoma Block Hospital for their dedicated service.
The programme began with the SDM lighting a butter lamp before the portrait of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. A butter lamp was also offered by the BMO in memory of the late Ngari Rinpoche, followed by a minute of silence as a mark of solidarity and prayer for his swift rebirth.
Chief Representative Officer Tashi Dhondup explained the significance of the Year of Compassion and elaborated on the Four Principal Commitments of His Holiness, expressing gratitude to the attendees on behalf of the people of Jangthang. Dr. Stanzin Jangchups spoke about the importance of compassion in daily life as taught by His Holiness. Chief Guest Shri Kacho Asgar Ali Khan highlighted the universal value of compassion and congratulated His Holiness on receiving the Grammy Award 2026.
The Chief Guest then distributed certificates to all Jangthang group leaders, issued by the Department of Home, CTA. Nyoma Gowa Khenrab Dorjee delivered the vote of thanks, sharing a message from Choegon Rinpoche stating, celebrating the Year of Compassion is especially important for the Jangthang region.
The programme concluded with a luncheon hosted by the Sonamling Ghoton Committee for all doctors, nurses, health workers, and members of the public.
