Taipei, Taiwan: The Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association last Saturday hosted a solidarity prayer service for those who have committed self-immolation as an act of protest against China’s colonial policies in Tibet, particularly the reported death of latest Tibetan self-immolator Tashi Rabten on 8 December 2016.
Over 50 Tibetan monks and laity gathered in Sanxia, New Taipei City, for an hour-long prayer service.
Addressing the prayer service, Representative Dawa Tsering said that China’s repressive policies in Tibet have intensified in the recent years.
“The Tibetans in exile should therefore be ready to shoulder even greater responsibility for the wellbeing of our brethren back home.”
The prayer service was followed by the ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
“So many Tibetans participated in today’s event. I hope they will continue to support us in future as well,” said Tashi Tsering, the president of the Taiwan Tibetan Welfare Association.
