Dharamshala: In a congratulatory message to the President-Elect of Central Tibetan Administration, Slovakia’s Deputy Speaker Gabor Grendel and MP Peter Osusky wrote: “Please accept our warm congratulation for being elected to the position of the Sikyong in democratic elections.”
Gabor Grendel is Deputy Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak parliament. Peter Osusky, MP, is representative of the Slovak Parliament Group of friends of Tibet.
The Slovak leaders praised the resolve of the Tibetan community to “hold democratic elections around the world, even in the current difficult situation. We believe that one day such free election will also take place in Tibet.”
“In Slovakia hundreds of local governments and individuals annually, on March 10, fly Tibetan flag in support of freedom for Tibet. Members of the Slovak Parliament Group of friends of Tibet that had been established in 2010 also do so on the floor of National Council of the Slovak Republic.”
Highlighting the shared history of “occupation” and “totalitarian regime” experienced by the two nations, they said: “We know how important freedom and human rights are. We support the effort of Tibetans for self-determination, freedom and democracy.”Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová
“We wish you a lot of strength, determination, patience and success in your responsible position. We could be happy to welcome you to Slovak Republic during your election term.”
On Sunday, Slovak politician and Member of the European Parliament, Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová also congratulated the CTA Sikyong and commended the success with which Tibetans conducted their democratic elections.
“I would like to extend to you my warmest congratulation on your election as the new Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration. I am pleased to see the success of Tibetan exile community in democratic elections for a new leader.”
“I am convinced that with the support of many who voted for you and the new elected members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, you have a strong mandate to accomplish your goals on unifying the Tibetan community and fostering its development. I hope we will be soon able to welcome you in Brussels once the pandemic situation allows it. I look forward to our future cooperation,” remarked the MEP Nicholsonová.
