Denmark: Sikyong Penpa Tsering arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark on Tuesday, 2 May 2023, marking his first official visit to the country. Sikyong was received by Tenpa Gyurme, President of the Tibetan Community in Demark, Anders H. Andersen, Chair of the Tibetan Support Committee Denmark, Grethe Sorvig, Chair of Danish Tibetan Cultural Society, Tina and Claudia of Denmark Students for Free Tibet as well as members of the Tibetan community in Denmark.
In the evening, he interacted with Tibetan youth on the 16th Kashag’s ongoing efforts towards bolstering political support and engagement on the Tibetan cause based on the prevailing situations inside Tibet and garnering economic support for developmental programs of CTA. The community, though small, can become a powerful force, Sikyong said as he encouraged the youth to continue to take active roles in their community.
Following his meeting with the youth, Sikyong addressed the Tibetan community in Denmark on a wide range of issues, including efforts to gain greater support for the Middle Way Policy through renewed political engagement with governments and parliamentarians based on Tibetans’ historical independence.
This morning, Sikyong begins his official engagement at the Danish Parliament in Christiansborg Castle, Copenhagen with a meeting with the leader of the Danish People’s Party, MP Morten Messerschmidt.
Sikyong was accompanied by Representative Sonam Frasi and Secretary Lochoe of Office of Tibet London, President of Tibetan Community Denmark Tenpa Gyurme, Anders Højmark Andersen and Hanne Bess Boelsbjerg from Tibet Support Committee, Denmark.
During his stay in Denmark, Sikyong is set to engage with Members of the Danish Parliament, senior officials, think tanks and longtime Tibet supporters in Denmark.
