Mundgod: Continuing with his ongoing official engagements in the region, Sikyong Penpa Tsering toured camps 5 and 4 of the Doeguling Tibetan Settlement to a warm welcome reception from the residents and paid a visit to Kaygyu Monastery in camp 4.
Thereafter, Sikyong visited Drepung Loseling Monastery to attend the enthronement ceremony of the new Gaden Tri Rinpoche. Following this, Sikyong continued his tour of the settlement with brief visits to Norbu Hill, where he paid his respects to the sacred site, and then moved on to Camp 6. At Camp 6, Sikyong visited the STS School before proceeding to Camp 7 and Camp 8. During these visits, Sikyong was warmly welcomed by the Tibetan residents.
A significant moment during the visit was a luncheon hosted at Ganden Lachi, where Sikyong was joined by some members of the Tibetan parliament in the region.
In the afternoon, Sikyong convened the public at the settlement’s community hall to address them. Sikyong spoke passionately about the tireless work and dedication of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who has long been a beacon of hope and resilience for the Tibetan people, in his keynote speech. Sikyong further highlighted the importance of educating younger generations about Tibetan history and culture, emphasising that the preservation of Tibetan identity is key to securing a future for the community.
Sikyong’s visit also included brief tours of several key institutions within the settlement, including the Settlement Office, the Local Tibetan Assembly office, the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement Office, the Regional Agriculture Cooperative Society, the “Reimagining Doeguling” project, and the Shiwatso Library.
