Hunsur: On the morning of 25 February 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration attended the Cham dance ceremony at the Dzongkar Choede in Hunsur Rabgyaling as its chief guest.
The Cham dance, a sacred ritual performed by Buddhist monks, is a profound act of spiritual offering. The monks of Dzongkar Choede performed the dance as a prayer for the long life of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and the quick resolution of Tibet’s struggle.
The ceremony was also attended by Tibetan Parliamentarian Migyur Dorjee, Chief Representative Officer Jigmey Tsultrim of the South Zone, Settlement Officer Norbu Tsering, local monastery abbots, representatives from the Local Tibetan Assembly, school administrators and staff, and ORTC Bylakuppe delegates, among others.
At the close of the event, a symbolic fire ritual was conducted to dispel negativity and purify the environment.
The following day, on 26 February 2025, as part of his official engagements, Sikyong Penpa Tsering continued his visit to Hunsur Rabgyaling Settlement, beginning his tour with M and O villages. He was warmly received by Settlement Officer Norbu Tsering, Office Secretary Tashi Bhuti, representatives of various local Tibetan associations, and members of the settlement community.
During his interactions with the public, Sikyong addressed several concerns raised by the residents, including requests for improvements in road conditions and housing facilities.
Sikyong then visited the remaining camps—N, L, I, K, J, D, P, F, and H. After lunch, Sikyong completed his tour of all 14 camps in the settlement, including the newly established Camp P, where initial houses are under construction. Through initiatives from the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), additional houses will be built in the future.
Emphasising the power of collective effort, Sikyong remarked, “One person alone cannot do everything, but together, we can achieve more if we work in unity.” He further stressed the importance of unity, saying, “Our community is our strength—let us bolster that strength by fostering Tibetan unity across our settlements.”
Throughout his visit, Sikyong engaged directly with residents, listened to their concerns, and assessed the needs of the Tibetan community in the settlement.
