DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay today met with Nyima Lhamo, the niece of late Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, a prominent Tibetan political prisoner who died under mysterious circumstances while in prison in July 2015. Nyima Lhamo escaped from Tibet recently and reached Dharamshala, the abode of Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the seat of the Central Tibetan Administration.
During their meeting, they discussed the political and human rights situation inside Tibet particularly the grim condition of Tibetan political prisoners. She also explained the events prior and after the death of Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and the challenges her family encountered.
Late Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche was a highly respected Tibetan spiritual figure and one of the most prominent Tibetan political prisoners. He died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, 12 July 2015, while serving a life sentence in Chuandong prison in the southwestern Chinese Provincial city of Chengdu, for allegedly being involved in a bomb blast that occurred in Chengdu city. The charge against Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche is widely believed to be politically motivated.
