Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration today launched a book titled ‘Harnessing the Dragon’s Fume‘ at the TCRC hall in Gangchen Kyishong this morning. The book is a compilation of articles and essays authored by Representative Tsewang Gyalpo Arya between 2019-2020 as a rebuttal to China’s lies and propaganda on Tibet during his tenure as Secretary of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR).
Other than Sikyong Penpa Tsering, the book launch was attended by Kashag Secretary Tsegyal Chukya Dranyi, DIIR Secretaries Karma Choeying and Chime Tseyang, Director Dawa Tsering of Tibet Policy Institute (TPI), DIIR Additional Secretary Tenzin Lekshay, and Deputy Director of TPI Tempa Gyaltsen Zamlha.
Addressing the launch ceremony, Sikyong Penpa Tsering highlighted the importance of such rebuttals to the false Chinese narrative on Tibet and lauded Representative Tsewang Gyalpo Arya for his constant efforts to present the truth of the situation inside Tibet both in his capacity as an individual Tibetan and as a senior official of CTA. Sikyong also called on individual Tibetans to dedicate efforts to examine and challenge the distortions perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party, in adherence to verifiable evidence.
Representative Tsewang Gyalpo Arya expressed gratitude to Sikyong Penpa Tsering and the other dignitaries for presiding over the launch, and said: “The occupation of Tibet by China remains unjustified in the eyes of the world despite China’s claims with the Sino-Tibet conflict persisting to this day.”
“Allowing the narrative distortions of China to go unchallenged is enabling the lies to gain credibility in front of those who are not knowledgeable about all the historical facts. China uses the official media tools to perpetuate their narrative among the uninformed masses domestically and globally. Therefore, it is of utmost importance for Tibetans everywhere to confront these falsities in every domain,” he explained.
DIIR Secretary Karma Choeying reiterated the importance of challenging China’s distortion of the real situation inside Tibet, and urged everyone to remain vigilant of China’s fabrication of the truth through its various mouthpieces and news outlets. He said it is important to provide timely rebuttals to these lies by China.
Director Dawa Tsering of Tibet Policy Institute said he hopes that more scholars and researchers would come up with their own rebuttals and articles to challenge China’s propaganda. He said the TPI would accordingly archive and publish these writings for posterity.
