DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay today launched the journal published by Tibet Policy Institute (TPI), the think tank of the Central Tibetan Administration at DIIR hall. The eponymously titled ‘Tibet Policy Journal’ is the first Tibetan journal published by TPI.
“With the increasing publication of books and articles by Indian scholars on Tibet in recent times, it depicts the important role of Tibet in the Sino-Indian relationship,” Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay said at the book launch.
Sikyong further mentioned that though the truth is always on our side, it is equally important to enlighten others about Tibet issues especially the citizens of our host country, India. He believes that the more Indian scholars write about Tibet, the better and easier it would be for the Central Tibetan Administration to conduct its overall activities both from a political as well as from a general aspect.
TPI Director Mr. Thubten Samphel, in his opening remarks, said that the journal is printed bi-annually in Tibetan and English by the institute. “The main reason for its publication is to provide a platform for TPI researchers to put forward their views and opinions,” he added.
Mr. Lobsang, Chief Advisor to TPI narrated a brief description of the content of the book which mainly focuses on the context of the 17th Point agreement imposed by the Chinese leaders in 1951 and how it is not in practice, and also Chinese government’s so-called development of the seemingly development policies in Tibet.
He further said that the journal illustrates anthological statements and remarks made by Chinese paramount leaders like Mao Zedong, Deng Xioping published in Chinese news media.
However, he explained that the content of the journal doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of the Central Tibetan Administration nor the Tibet Policy Institute as the articles published in the journal are purely contributions made by TPI researchers.
