
Dharamshala: The Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration, and National Democratic Institute (NDI) jointly organised a Capacity-Building training programme for the Tibetan Settlement Officers at Asia Health Resorts that commenced earlier today on 26 August 2024.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering presided over the inaugural ceremony of the training program as its chief guest, along with Secretary Palden Dhondup of Department of Home, NDI’s Deputy Chief of Party Palden Phuntsok, and a former Tibetan Settlement Officer, Tsering Topgyal.
More than 40 participants, including the Settlement Officers and the Acting Settlement Officers, participated in this training funded by NDI.
Kicking off the ceremony with a short welcome address, Home Secretary Palden Dhondup provided an overview of the series of programs scheduled for the five-day training and urged the attendees to actively participate in discussions during the sessions.
In his keynote address, chief guest Sikyong Penpa Tsering delineated the principal objectives of the capacity-building training that aims to employ a comprehensive approach to cultivate a cohort of proficient leaders and enhance the Central Tibetan Administration’s potentiality. Additionally, Sikyong implored the settlement officers to submit preliminary project proposal for the upcoming 90th birthday Anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Sikyong further encouraged the participating Settlement Officers and Acting Settlement Officers to assume responsibility for their respective regions by devising programs and projects for the upcoming year that align with the Administration’s objectives and uphold democratic principles.
Following that, NDI’s Deputy Chief of Party, Palden Phuntsok, shared his concluding remarks, after which, the exchange of inquiries resumed between Sikyong and the participants to discuss the latter’s concerns and opinion.
Apart from that, Sikyong led the session on Kashag’s revised vision paper, presenting it significance and inclusion of major issues and topics concerning Tibetan freedom struggle.
