Shimla: After concluding his successful two-week-long Europe tour, Sikyong Penpa Tsering arrived in Delhi yesterday and held a meeting with dignitary there. In the early hours of this morning, he left for Shimla.
Upon arrival at the Jubbarhati airport, Sikyong was accorded a warm reception by the Tibetan community in Shimla led by the Chief Representative Officer Tsewang Phuntsok, Office Secretary, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly, representatives of the monasteries, school heads, RTWA, RTYC, including Additional Secretary Tenzin Norbu from the Home Department.
Sikyong addressed the students and staff of the Sambhota Tibetan School, stressing the importance of knowing Tibetan history and Indo-Tibet historical relationship relating to the derivation of Tibetan script, language, religion and culture. “We consider India as the Guru and ourselves the Chela,” he said. He highlighted the bond shared by India and Tibet, which has developed over centuries from the empire period to the current hostage of Tibet.
Speaking on the environmental significance of Tibet, he asserted that the occupation of Tibet is a concern for all due to its fragile ecosystem, which is under threat due to the developmental work carried out by the Chinese government namely, the construction of dams which could severely affect the nations downstream.
His main message for the students was to develop their minds by asking questions whenever it arose and ultimately to become future leaders.
Sikyong also had a press interaction with the local press who attended the ceremony and answered questions raised on the recent formal Europe visit to the threats of China’s cyber manipulation among others.
