Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration wrote to Senator Jeff Merkley (Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China), Senator Todd Young (US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations) and Senator Patrick Leahy (senior United States Senator) to express gratitude for introducing the Tibet bill “Promoting a Resolution to Tibet–China Conflict” in the US Senate on behalf of the Tibetan people and Central Tibetan Administration.
Appreciating the introduction of the Tibet bill, Sikyong wrote, “The successful enactment of this bipartisan Tibet Bill will help us advance the resolution to long-standing and unresolved Tibet-China conflict through Middle-Way Policy. And the proposal of this bill to the legislature will revitalise the Tibetans’ optimism, especially those inside Tibet who are subjected to severe political persecution and deprivation of fundamental human rights to preserve their cultural heritages and national identity.” in his letters.
He further acknowledged the strong and constant support from the government of the United States towards the cause of Tibet, adding, “your (the Senators) effort in translating this bill into policy will facilitate a resumption of dialogue between representatives of His Holiness the Dalai Lama/Central Tibetan Administration and People’s Republic of China.”
The Central Tibetan Administration has also released a press release to welcome the “Promoting a Resolution to Tibet–China Conflict” following its introduction on 20 December 2022.
