Dharamshala: Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration congratulated the new President of the European Parliament Her Excellency Roberta Metsola.

In the letter dated 25 January 2022, Sikyong wrote:

“On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people, I extend our heartiest congratulations on your election as the President of the European Parliament.”

“The EU parliament has a longstanding association with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet, for which we remain deeply grateful. Furthermore, the EU parliament’s commitment towards protecting human rights and democracy serves as a
beacon of inspiration to many, including the Tibetans.”

“Today, as the very identity of the Tibetan people lies under systematic attack inside Tibet, the Tibetan people need the resolute support of the European Parliament and that of the international community ever more so than before. Under your leadership, we hope that the EU parliament will continue to actively support the speedy resolution of the Sino-Tibet conflict and help bring a definitive end to the sufferings of Tibetans in Tibet.”

“Once again, I extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes.”
