Dharamshala: Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay congratulated Matteo Mecacci, President of International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) on his appointment as the new Director of the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) saying the appointment was testament to Mecacci’s significant contribution in protecting human rights and democracy around the world.
“It is an immense pleasure to congratulate you personally, and on behalf of the Tibetan people on your well-deserved appointment as the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR),” Sikyong said Tuesday in a congratulatory message.
“Your appointment is a testament to the significant global contribution you have made in various roles throughout your career to protect human rights and foster democracy. We are exceedingly grateful for your active leadership as the director of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) in legislative advocacy and focusing governments and the international community on the dire human rights situation in Tibet. We thank you for representing the voice and the aspirations of the Tibetan people at significant global platforms.”
He concluded by saying, “I am confident that under your leadership, ODIHR will continue to advance human rights, peace and dialogue. Once again, my sincere congratulations and best wishes.”
ICT President Matteo Mecacci was appointed by the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe as the new Director of the Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, based in Warsaw. The Office of Democratic Institutions promotes democratic elections, respect for human rights, rule of law, tolerance and non-discrimination. The ODIHR is the largest regional office on human rights, second only to the UN High Commissioner Office for Human Rights.
