Shoton 2001
22 March, 2001: The Shoton Festival for the Iron Snake year (2128) by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) will begin this year from 27 March 2001 at 9.00 AM, and will continue for the next seven days.

Lhamo, or Tibetan Opera, performers from the Tibetan Settlement of Bhandra and Mainpat, Orissa; Bylakuppee, Mundgod, Karnataka; Kalimpong, northeast India, and Nepal will present opera performances in their distinct styles. TIPA will present the concluding performance on 4th April 2001.
Also slated to perform during the celebration are various dances, songs, cultural programmes, contemporary songs, music and plays by the TIPA artists and the AaKaMa band from TIPA.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama concludes teachings at Dharamsala
His Holiness the Dalai Lama started special teachings on Lamrim chenmo, or the Graded Path of Enlightenment, at the Tsuglag Khang, Dharamsala, from 11th March 2001. The teaching concluded on 26th of this month had a record attendance of around 4000 monks and nuns, 3000 lay people and about 2000 foreigners.
