Seminar highlights Importance of Tibet for India’s security

Jammu: The Jammu chapter of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch, in coordination with India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO), New Delhi, held a day-long seminar on Tibet’s Freedom – India’s Security at the auditorium of Department of Environmental Science, Jammu University, on 16th August, 2007.
Mr. Ashok Gupta, president of BTSM (Jammu chapter), while addressing the gathering of 60 people comprising of students, professors, and Indian Government staff of Jammu, highlighted the importance of Tibet issue in relation to the India’s security.
Dr. Vivek Kumar, the National General Secretary of BTSM, explained briefly on the pre 1950 borders between India and Tibet when there was no need of Border Patrol.
The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. K. C. Agnihotri Ji, National Convener of BTSM, expressed concerns that the Indian Government policy on Tibet had been too unrealistic and cautious after 1950.
He further said that the new Gormo-Lhasa railway, for example, has significantly augmented China’s rapid military-deployment capability against India.
Beijing’s plan to build a highway to Mount Everest to aid climbers as well as to provide an easy path for the Olympic torch to reach the peak of the mountain at the 2008 Games, is a big threat to the fragile Himalayan ecology, Mr Agnihotri added.
Mr. Sumit of BTSM Jammu successfully concluded the program with vote of thanks, after staff of India Tibet Coordination Office distributed Tibet related materials and pamphlets in Hindi.
