Every first Saturday of the month, as a part of its shout-out campaign, DIIR’s Social Media Desk will be profiling a civil servant of Central Tibetan Administration. This week we are pleased to profile Tsultrim Dorjee, one of the official drivers for Central Tibetan Administration.
SM Journalist: Could you briefly tell us about yourself?
Tsultrim Dorjee: My name is Tsultrim Dorjee. I am from Gangtok. I did my schooling up to class eight standard. I couldn’t complete my education. However, I utilised my spare time learning mechanical skills and driving. With my acquired skills, I moved to Dharamshala and now it has been 22 years rendering my service for Central Tibetan Administration.
SM Journalist: Please explain your job description and how does your work represent you or vice versa?
Tsultrim Dorjee: My job position is a driver. As a driver, you must be ready to drive at any given time of day. Through my job at CTA, I had the opportunity to serve Venerable Samdhong Rinpoche for 10 years during his tenure at Kashag. I also had the chance to drive for many different Kalons of CTA.
SM Journalist: What inspired you to serve the Central Tibetan Administration?
Tsultrim Dorjee: It was my mother who inspired me to serve CTA. She told me that our family has 9 sons yet none of us have been rendering service at CTA. It was through her that I was inspired and motivated to be here for the past 22 years.
SM Journalist: What does it mean for you to be a CTA Civil Servant?
Tsultrim Dorjee: I feel proud to be here at CTA. My family and my close friends all praise me for my service and that boosts my morale.
SM Journalist: How best do you think you could make a difference to CTA?
Tsultrim Dorjee: From my perspective, I have contributed as much as I could and I will continue doing so. In return, CTA helps shape my personality and me.
SM Journalist: Who is your role model and why?
Tsultrim Dorjee: Obviously, my role model is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. There’s no one in the world that compares to His Holiness.
SM Journalist: What is your piece of advice for young Tibetans serving or wishing to serve at CTA?
Tsultrim Dorjee: At CTA, there are so many young Tibetans. They are all nice, they respect their elders, and they work hard. This job is not just a 9 to 5 job; it requires a tremendous amount of commitment. There are some staff members who are fully dedicated. My advice for the prospective CTA civil servants is to respect each other and carry out our duties for the Tibetan cause.
