Every first Saturday of the month, as a part of its shout-out campaign, DIIR’s Social Media Desk will be profiling a civil servant of Central Tibetan Administration. This week we are pleased to profile Donkar Wangmo, Chief Counselor at Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration.
SM Journalist: Could you briefly tell us about yourself?
Donkar Wangmo: My name is Donkar Wangmo and I work at the Department of Education, CTA as a Counselor holding the rank of Additional Secretary. I hail from a very humble family. I was raised and brought up in Mussoorie, Dehra Dun. I did my schooling from Cambrian Hall, Dehra Dun and then went on to do my Bachelor of Arts from St. Bede’s College, Shimla. It was the quest to learn more that I continued to do my Masters & M. Phil in English and a Bachelor of Education from HP University and Punjab University respectively. It was in the year 1999 that I was able to fulfill my second dream to become a professional counselor and went on to pursue second Master Degree in the USA under the Tibetan Fulbright Scholarship which now is called Tibetan Scholarship Program. Prior to working at Central Tibetan Administration, I taught at Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussoorie for about 8 – 9 years as an English Teacher. I am married and blessed with a daughter.
SM Journalist: Please explain your job description and how best does your work represent you or vice versa?
Donkar Wangmo: I am a counselor by professional working at the Central Tibetan Administration. My initial primary job is to visit the Tibetan Schools and conduct counseling program at the schools under Central Tibetan School Administration but as of now greater part of my time is invested in supervision, planning, consultation and execution of the counseling program which involves project planning related to counseling program for students, organizing workshops and meeting students & parents one on one as well as attending to their concerns and issues through phone calls and social media. You can say this is ME because I am passionate about helping people and doing my best to provide professional guidance in regard to career & educational planning.
SM Journalist: What inspired you to serve the Central Tibetan Administration?
Donkar Wangmo: The inspiration to return back to Central Tibetan Administration which was then called Tibetan Government in Exile headed by HH the Dalai Lama & by being part of it through my service. The Central Tibetan Administration that has invested so much in our education and rehabilitation that it definitely is an inspiration for me to be a drop in that magnanimous endeavor which needs more human resources at this challenging time when the martyrs in Tibetan are sacrificing their lives to the cause of Tibet.
SM Journalist: What does it mean for you to be a CTA Civil Servant?
Donkar Wangmo: It means a lot. CTA Civil Servant is the best opportunity to serve one’s community in Exile towards regaining our Freedom and restructuring of Future Tibet.
SM Journalist: How best do you think you could make a difference to CTA?
Donkar Wangmo: I am certain that all of us who come here comes with an intent to do our best with dedication and commitment to whatever task is assigned to us. Similarly with that pure intention whatever we do will make a difference in the quality and efficiency of our work. It is with this positive attitude that I enjoy working towards bringing some difference in the quality of my work as a professional counselor so that the students and parents to whom we serve receives the best quality services.
SM Journalist: Who is your role model and why?
Donkar Wangmo: My role model is His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama and it is HH the Dalai Lama’s all-encompassing Wisdom, Leadership, Energy, and positivity that motivates and inspires me.
SM Journalist: What is your piece of advice for young Tibetans serving or wishing to serve at CTA?
Donkar Wangmo: There is no greater satisfaction than working for your own people. I would advise the Tibetan Youth to take the courses and professional training they are pursuing with seriousness so that when they come to serve at CTA they can provide the best quality service as Tibetan Civil Servant. Those of you who are currently serving CTA, I would request you to continue to serve sincerely and wholeheartedly the way you have been doing and as long as possible for CTA needs Tibetan to work for Tibetans until our struggle is resolved and thereafter in restructuring the future TIBET!
