Resignation of Another Deputy Announced
Dharamsala, 26 March: The Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies yesterday announced the resignation of yet another Domed deputy. Deputy Tenzin Khedup is the fourth deputy to resign between 2003 and 2004. While Gelug deputy Tenzin Sherab has already been replaced the replacements for the other three will have to be decided through election.
The Election Commission, on 17 March, had issued instructions to its regional branches for the holding of preliminary rounds of elections. The instructions were only for replacements for Dukar Tsering and Tsering Norzom. The resignation of Tenzin Khedup was announced before the announcement from the Election Commission. However, Mr. Namgyal Dorjee, the election Commissioner of the Central Tibetan Administration, told reporters that some small changes need to be made to the announcement and that it will be done accordingly through fax, email or phone.
While the election commission has announced the election of a deputy each from Domed and Utsang to replace Domed deputy Dukar Tsering and Utsang deputy Tsering Norzom who have resigned recently, it was decided that the election to replace deputy Tenzin Khedup be held along. The election commission earlier has decided to hold the election of a Domed deputy to replace Dukar Tsering again as it ran short of the minimum percentage of votes required.
