Ulaanbaatar: The honourable Speaker of Lok Sabha (India’s lower chamber of Parliament), Shri Om Birla, paid a visit to Central Buddhist Monastery Gandaan Teckchenling in Ulaanbaatar to pay his respects during his official three-day visit to Mongolia.
The India Council for Cultural Relations bestowed the ‘Distinguished Buddhist Award’ to Khamba Nomun Khan, Gabju D. Choijamts, in recognition of his services for propagating Buddhism and fostering India-Mongolia spiritual connections. The Supreme Head of Mongolian Buddhists, Khamba Nomun Khan Gabju Choijamts Demberel, serves as the Abbot of Gandan Tegchenling Monastery and Head of the Centre of Mongolian Buddhists.
Telo Tulku Rinpoche, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Mongolia, Russia and CIS countries, was also at the reception to welcome honourable Speaker Om Birla. Telo Tulku Rinpoche was introduced to the Speaker by Indian Ambassador to Mongolia, Shri M.P.Singh.
The Speaker was welcomed with a performance of tsam (a ritual dance) by the monks of Gandaan Teckchenling and was led into the main prayer hall by Khamba Nomun Khan and Telo Tulku Rinpoche. After the excursion, the delegates were led to the reception “Ger”, where the Speaker conferred the award to Khamba Nomun Khan, Ven. Choijamts.
At the same time, Representative Telo Tulku Rinpoche presented a memento to Khamba Nomun Khan, Ven. Gabju D. Choijamts on behalf of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration.
