London: The annual One Young World Summit is a convergence of the brightest young talent from every country and sector, working to accelerate social impact. Delegates from over 190 countries are participating in four transformative days of speeches, panels, networking and workshops being held in London from 22nd to 25th October 2019.
Mr Sonam Tsering Frasi, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Office of Tibet, London, along with Kachen Chultim Nima, senior-most among the monks of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery currently touring the United Kingdom, attended the grand gala opening of the global forum held at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in London. The opening gala was attended by all One Young World delegates which counts more than 2,000, along with counsellors, ambassadors and high commissioners. The Duchess of Sussex also made a presence.
The following day, the Representative and Kachen participated in One Young World’s Interfaith Service at Central Methodist Hall, Westminster, London.
The theme discussed was “We are one humanity and a lot more unites us than divides us”. Other distinguished faith leaders present were Chief Rabbi Mirvis, Dr Chinmay Pandya, Ayatollah Milani, Cardinal Nicholls, Archbishop Nikitas and Sayed Fazel Milani, all of whom spoke on the theme from their faith’s perspective.
Referring to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s steadfast commitment to fostering inter-religious harmony, Representative Frasi called on the young delegates, future leaders of the world, to practise love, tolerance and compassion in their daily pursuit of their goals to bring about positive change in the world.
He said, “Buddha taught us the universal truth that all sentient beings want happiness and do not want to suffer. Physical happiness is relative and not long-lasting but the inner mental peace generated within oneself is permanent. Calm mind without anger, jealousy and hatred are needed to achieve mental peace. Caring and compassionate leadership will generate a more peaceful and tolerant society. Hatred to others and stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction is very destructive to society. You must work and lead to achieve a peaceful and harmonious society who cares for one’s neighbours and this planet – which is our only home.”
The Tibetan participation in the two events of One Young World program was possible due to the invitation extended to the Office of Tibet by Counsellor and Chair, Interfaith Dialogue.
