
Bangalore: In recent times, due to heavy rainfall, severe flood affected 11 districts of south Indian State of Karnataka leaving many displaced and killed. To express solidarity with the affected members, the Tibetan residents of the Karnataka state under the leadership of the Chief Representative of South Zone, CTA held a meeting with settlement officers of the 5 major settlements of the Karnataka state on 23 August. As per the agreement of the meeting, Kashag sanctioned 5 Lakh as they requested to contribute to the relief fund of those affected areas.
Moreover, civil servants, members of the federation of Tibetan cooperatives, school and hospital staff from 5 major settlements in the state contributed a day salary to stand in solidarity with the affected people. The total amount was summed up as Rs 5,26,215.65.
Representative Chophel Thupten of South Zone, CTA met with the Chief Minister B.S Yediyurappa of Karnataka state yesterday and presented the money sanction from Kashag to him and expressed solidarity with the flood-affected people.
Half of the fund collected from all the 5 Tibetan settlements of Karnataka state was also presented to CM B.S Yediyurappa on behalf of the members of the Tibetan settlements in Karnataka state. The remaining 50% of the collected money was presented to the Tibetan families in Mungod Tibetan settlement who were affected by the flood.
Representative Chophel Thupten expressed his gratitude for the long-standing support of Karnataka state to the Tibetans and further expressed solidarity with the state during the harsh time of flooding.
The settlement officers have also taken initiatives through district commissioners and helped the villages nearby affected by the flood. They have also provided assistance through flood relief camps.
